Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said President Biden was in ‘no man’s land’ on ABC’s ‘This Week’ on Sunday and added he couldn’t satisfy Democrats progressives or moderates.

ABC’s Jonathan Karl pointed to a New York Times poll that showed less than half of Republican voters favor former President Donald Trump as the party’s 2024 nominee.

The Wall Street Journal’s Catherine Lucey said the poll showed many alternatives to Trump, such as former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Karl also noted a New York Times poll that found 64% of Democrats would prefer a different candidate in 2024.

“I saw this poll and I said, you know what, this poll reflects a lot of the frustrations Democrats are feeling right now, it’s not just gas prices and what’s going on when you go to the grocery store it’s a generational shift you’re seeing, Democrats want someone different,” she said, adding that Biden was standing up for ‘basic rights’ and going through a difficult period.

“Donna is doing her best, and I appreciate that, you are doing your best, but when 64% of your party says a year and a half into your presidency, thank you but no thank you, that reflects, I agree with you , the frustrations of Democrats, some because they think he didn’t do enough and some because he did too much,” Christie said.

He said Biden could not satisfy moderates or progressives.

“Joe Biden is in no man’s land,” he said. “It’s an awful place to be a public office holder when you don’t have anyone.”

Lucey noted that many Democrats are concerned about the president’s age as they look to 2024.

Karl asked if party members expected Biden to run again.

ABC Congressional Correspondent Rachel Scott said it depends on who they ask.

“In private, when you talk to a lot of Democratic Party aides, a lot of members in private, they worry about whether or not he’s going to run, how quickly he’s possibly going to make that decision, whether he’s ends up being on the fence and maybe getting into that place,” she said.

The New York Times reported in June that Democrats were concerned about Biden’s leadership ability and wondered if he should be “released” in 2024.

David Axelrod told the outlet that if he thinks Biden doesn’t get the credit he deserves when it comes to certain things, “the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second. mandate, and that would be a major problem.”
