Ole Miss Coach Chris Beard will remain with the rebels despite being a candidate in Texas A&M, confirms John Talty of CBS Sports. Beard will receive an increase and a zero budget considered the first five within the dry to stay with the program.
Beard was a logical candidate to replace Buzz Williams in Texas A & M because of his links with the Lone Star State. The former coach of Texas and Texas Tech has spent the last two years with Ole Miss and guided the program towards his first place in Sweet 16 since 2001 last month.
With Beard more in the running for work, the sports director of Texas A&M, Trev Alberts, has the possibility of resetting the basketball program. Other Albert candidates could call Illinois coach Brad Underwood, Texas Technology Coach Grant McCasland, Mississippi State coach, Nebraska Fred Hoiberg and Oklahoma coach Moser.
The last dominoes fell after Villanova hired Kevin Willard from Maryland, creating an opening for Williams from Texas A&M. The Aggies have won at least 21 games in the last four seasons under Williams, but lost against Michigan No. 5 in the second round of the NCAA tournament to finish with a 23-11 file.
