California road patrol officers shot and killed a man in San Jacinto on Monday after allegedly throwing rocks into moving cars, the agency said in a statement.
Around 4:48 pm Monday, the CHP officers responded to “reports from a male subject throwing stones to vehicles coming in the opposite” near Gilman Springs Road in the east of Route 79 of the State, according to the press release.
The suspect then threw rocks on the officers, who tried to use “verbal commands and non -deadly force options” to master it, said CHP. The suspect continued to move towards the officers, who then pulled him on CHP.
The police had the opportunity to use tasers or bean bags before shooting, said CHP spokesperson Jonathan Torres, but he was not clear that was used in this situation. No weapon was found on the scene, he said.
The police provided medical aid to the suspect until emergency staff can take over, according to the CHP. Cal Fire then declared the man who died on the scene.
The police were not injured and the shooting is the subject of an investigation by the detail of the investigation into the riverside county, according to the press release.
The CHP encouraged people with information to contact Torres at (951) 846-5300 or after hours at (916) 407-7511.
