BEIJING (AP) – China warned other countries on Monday to conclude trade agreements with the United States to the detriment of China.
Governments such as those of Taiwan, Japan and South Korea began negotiations with Washington after President Donald Trump announced radical prices against almost all American business partners on April 2. Import taxes were quickly interrupted against most countries after the markets panicked, but it increased its already steep prices against China.
“China firmly opposes any party, reaching an agreement at the expense of the interest of China,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. “If this happens, China will never accept it and resolutely take the countermeasures in a reciprocal way. China is determined and capable of protecting its own rights and interests. ”
Secretary in the United States of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, said earlier this month that countries currently trading trade agreements with the United States should “approach China as a group” with Washington.
The American prices against other countries are economic intimidation, the ministry said in the press release assigned to an unnamed spokesman.
“Sallery cannot bring peace and compromises cannot gain respect,” he added. “For his own temporary selfish interests, to sacrifice the interests of others in exchange for so-called exemptions, it is like looking for the skin of a tiger. He will ultimately only make two ends and harm others without enjoying it. ”
China said it was open to discussions with Washington, but no meeting had been announced.
Trump made China the target of his steepest prices, imposing several tariff cycles totaling 145% of Chinese imports. Beijing retaliated with 125% tariffs on American imports.
The prices frightened the exporters and blocked expeditions, while threatening to drag the world economy.
