Hong Kong / Shanghai – China on Saturday woke up to the news that US President Donald Trump imposed a new price on his goods, reviving fears of a superpower trade war that was going to have repercussions in the world economy.
The Trump administration said it would take a 10% levy from Chinese products from Saturday, while applying 25% heavier tariffs in Canada and Mexico. The justification is that these countries have failed to stop the flow of narcotics such as fentanyl in the United States, which also wants its neighbors to do more to guarantee their shared borders.
