Cameras tracked the convicted sex offender’s movements across the city as he fled the scene when a group of people disturbed him as they passed by.

CCTV footage also showed him throwing the cloth he used to gag the victim with into a wheelie bin outside a house.

Emilov was then filmed returning home to Rosebery Street in the North Evington area.

Police discovered Emilov had left the UK and he was arrested as he returned to Luton Airport on November 6 last year.

A DNA sample taken from him matched those found on the victim’s fabric and tights.

He said: “I hope the public can be reassured that he is currently serving a prison sentence because I believe if he had not been arrested he could have reoffended.

“This was a complex and in-depth investigation which involved piecing together his movements after the incident.

“Credit goes to the team for their efforts to build a case that meant he had no choice but to admit what he had done.”

Detective Constable Lewis McMenamin, the investigating officer, added: “I hope the victim in this case, who showed great courage in providing information which helped secure his conviction, can find some relief of this result and that this will allow her to continue her life.

“I hope the immense strength she has shown during this investigation can inspire other victims of sexual abuse to come forward.”
