Child swept away by floodwaters and saved by stranger

Devastating floods in northeastern Afghanistan swept away homes, destroyed roads and left hundreds dead last week.

The BBC spent a day in one of the worst-affected villages, speaking to people and hearing incredible stories, including that of a child rescued from floodwaters.

Zulaikha, 10, was floating on her back near a tree when she was spotted and rescued by 18-year-old Elhamuddin.

The BBC’s Caroline Davies tells her story.
