Chiefs roster: Jaylen Watson activated; two players raised for the Texans

As expected, the Kansas City Chiefs have activated cornerback Jaylen Watson from their reserve/injured list, making him eligible to play in Saturday’s divisional game against the Houston Texans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Watson fractured his ankle during Kansas City’s 28–18 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. He was designated to return to the roster on January 3, allowing him to practice with the ‘team. He was a full participant in all sessions this week.

The roster was down to 52 players after defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu was added to injured reserve last Friday, so no corresponding roster changes are expected.

The team also elevated practice squad players for Saturday’s game: linebacker Swayze Bozeman and safety Deon Bush.

The team made two more moves this week. On Wednesday, the NFL’s official transaction report revealed that the team released tight end Robert Tonyan from its practice squad. Tonyan had been signed to the taxi squad on December 23.

To fill his practice squad spot, Kansas City signed wide receiver Jason Brownlee. The six-foot-three, 202-pound forward joined the leagues as an undrafted free agent for the New York Jets following the 2023 NFL Draft. He appeared in seven games in New York in late from his rookie season – catching five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown – but spent 2024 on the Jets’ practice squad.
