Chicago’s Hurricane Harbor water park, with ‘world’s tallest water coaster,’ opens for 2023 season – NBC Chicago

It’s not just beach season in and around Chicago, it’s also water park season.

Hurricane Harbor Chicago, a 20-acre water park located in the suburb of Gurnee alongside Six Flags Great America, will officially open Saturday for the 2023 season, according to a park press release.

The family park features dozens of waterslides, a “Surf Rider” area, a lazy river, cabanas and “Tsunami Surge,” the tallest roller coaster in the world, according to park officials.

Standing at 86 feet, Hurricane Harbor says the Tsunami Surge is the “tallest water coaster in the world”. Guests can reach top speeds of 28 miles per hour on 950 feet of enclosed tunnels and open-air slides. The ride also includes “three gravity-defying explosions, five jaw-dropping drops, and five hairpin turns.”

Hurricane Harbor Chicago is open weekends through June 11, with daily summer operations starting June 15.

Six Flags Great America opened the season on April 22.

Tickets are on sale now and start at $29.99 for a day pass. More information can be found here.
