Chicago Sky Star Angel Reese Announces She Will Miss Rest of Year – NBC Chicago

The Chicago Sky will be without a key player for their playoff race.

Star forward Angel Reese announced on social media Saturday that she will miss the remainder of the season with a wrist injury.

“What a year! I never would have guessed the last basket of my rookie season would be a 3, but maybe that was God telling them to give them a taste of what they’ll see more of in year 2 lol,” Reese wrote. “Through it all, I showed that I belonged in this league even when no one else believed I did. All I ever wanted was to come to the W and make an impact.”

“I can confidently say that I have done that and will strive to continue to do so. I am filled with emotion right now due to a season-ending injury, but also filled with gratitude for what is to come. Even though it is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break.”

Reese added that she will continue to cheer on the players on the sidelines while saying she will see the new Unrivaled league soon.

The Sky are currently eighth in the playoff race with six games remaining in the regular season. The Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings are still in the race. Chicago still has matchups with all three of those teams that will prove decisive.

Reese would finish his rookie campaign averaging 13.6 points on 39.1 percent shooting, 13.1 rebounds (8.1 defensive), 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals.

She also recorded the most rebounds in a WNBA season, the most consecutive double-doubles, and the highest rebounds per game average in a single campaign.

The LSU product should also be a top candidate for Rookie of the Year, with the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark also in the mix as she helped her team clinch a playoff spot after a 1-8 start.
