Chicago police search for armed suspects responsible for 13 robberies – NBC Chicago

Shocking video of a brazen Chicago crime shows two masked men holding a victim at gunpoint in Humboldt Park as part of a series of armed robberies.

NBC Chicago has learned the victim was on his way to work when they confronted him at the front door. It happened around 5:30 a.m. near Division Street and Kostner Avenue on March 16.

“After seeing this, it really scares me because I can’t believe it,” said Amy Do, who works next door.

Do is the owner of One Stop Salon and said that over the years they have made some changes to their security.

“We double-lock the doors so we don’t let strange people in or anything unless you have an appointment,” she said.

Police said suspects captured on surveillance in the 4300 block of W. Division Street are responsible for at least 13 armed robberies over a three-day period. The thieves struck overnight in Humboldt Park, Lawndale and even West Town.

“It doesn’t matter where you are,” Do said. “If it happens, it happens, but it seems like we need more police to keep an eye on people.”

From March 12 to 16, Chicago police said three separate teams carried out the robberies. 31 people were targeted. Chicago police issued three community alerts in just 48 hours.

“It’s not like it used to be where we could go out and let the kids play,” Anna Martinez said. “It’s not like this anymore, you can’t have your own freedom anymore.”

Martinez lives on Dickens Street in Logan Square and said his relative’s body camera captured an armed robbery right in front of their home at the 2100 block of N. Kimball Avenue.

“It’s horrible to feel this way in your own neighborhood,” she said.

She wants to feel safe in her neighborhood and is now calling on her alderman to help her install a pod camera in her neighborhood.

“At some point, something will have to be done,” she said. “I don’t really know if anything can be done to help us feel a little safe, but it’s too out of control.”
