Chicago mansion from ‘Home Alone’ hits the market for $5.25 million

The iconic brick house featured in the Christmas classic “Home Alone” is officially on sale.

The house is located in Winnetka, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The current owners purchased it in 2012 for $1.585 million, but the asking price for the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home is now $5.25 million.

Fans of “Home Alone” will immediately recognize the Georgian-style red brick exterior, and while several elements of the interior have remained the same, several improvements have been made over the years.

Today, the home, put on the market by Dawn McKenna Group of Coldwell Banker Realty, features “a new sun-filled family room with expansive 10-foot, four-inch ceilings and walls of French doors that open to a welcoming courtyard,” according to the listing.

The kitchen was also redone to add double islands, a hidden pantry and a built-in bench seat.

One of the most significant improvements made by the current owners is to the basement. In the Macaulay Culkin-directed film, the basement was dark and contained a menacing furnace. But now it houses both a fully equipped gym, including an area to play basketball with a real 3-point line, and a state-of-the-art home theater room.

Originally built in 1921, the 9,126-square-foot home sits on just over half an acre of land. It’s just a short walk from the house to the shores of Lake Michigan.
