Chicago, Illinois schools make U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best High School Rankings’ list – NBC Chicago

Several Illinois schools have earned top spots in a new ranking of the nation’s best high schools for 2024.

The list, published by U.S. News and World Report, titled “2024 Best High School Rankings,” examines more than 24,000 public high schools in all 50 states, the editors said. The editors then ranked schools based on several factors, including college readiness, state assessments, graduation rate, breadth of academic program and underserved student performance, the report says.

The results compiled a ranking of more than 17,660 public high schools, according to the report. The top 20 schools on the list either have selective enrollment or requirements such as a minimum GPA, the report adds.

According to the report, 11.5 percent of classified public high schools were charter schools and 4.4 percent were magnet schools. Florida and Arizona top the list, with 12 high schools in the top 100. California is next, with 11 schools in the top 100.

BASIS Charter Schools in Peoria, Arizona took the top spot on the list. Signature School, in Evansville, Indiana, came in second.

In Illinois, five Chicago schools were among the top 100 schools in the country.

Walter Payton College Preparatory High School earned 5th place on the national list, while Northside College Preparatory High School earned 35th place. Young Magnet High School came in at No. 52, Jones College Prep High School at No. 53 and Lane Technical High School at No. 60.

Although suburban schools don’t rank as highly on the national list, many top the report’s list of best high schools for 2024 in the state of Illinois, including Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire and Vernon Hills High School at Vernon Hills in New Trier. Winnetka Township High School and Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale.

7. Academic Magnet High School – North Charleston, South Carolina
8. International Academy – Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
9. Gwinnett School of Math, Science and Technology – Lawrenceville, Georgia
10. Riverside Stem Academy – Riverside, CA
