West Sacramento, California – for the second basic player in Chicago Cubs, Nico Hoerner, from Oakland, on Monday was one day soft.
The Cubs are part of the first series of major leagues played at the Sutter Heath Park, a triple-trip stadium that athletics calls at least the next three seasons while waiting for their new permanent park to be built in Las Vegas. They left Oakland after 57 seasons at the Colosseum.
“I mean, I prefer to play Oakland – Oakland is a special place for me,” said Hoerner, who grew up with a fan of A. “I am really grateful to be able to play it in 2023 and show love to a lot of people there, but it’s always cool to play the A.
“I think that for fans in Oakland, baseball fans, sports fans in general. The three teams left (including NFL raiders and NBA warriors) for sports fans is a blow for a whole community, and three teams that have created a lot of joy for many people. Quite simply, I think that sport plays a big role in a place and to have everything that is very fast is difficult.”
Before the match, Hoerner anticipated a good atmosphere for the opening at home on Monday.
“Everything that has sold is pretty cool, said Hoerner.” There are a lot of super baseball fans in this area, have played a bunch of travel balls and stuff here. The interest of baseball will be high, and it is a fairly cool setting to see many of the best players in the world throughout the season. »»
The Cubs presented A 18-3 dubbing in their new house, which included 11 additional strokes, consecutive circuits from Michael Busch and inby Swanson in a first round in four rounds, and the receiver Carson Kelly finishing the first cycle by a cub of Mark Grace in 1993.
“I launched my just part of minor leagues baseball matches, it was a bit like being back home,” said starter Ben Brown, who made five innings in the victory. “There were certainly a lot of people there, that’s for sure. So it was cool, a little different from structure, but, yes, it was great.”
However, there were some notable misadventures in the new A. stadium.
CUBS and A radio emissions have often been disrupted and cut due to WiFi problems in the press box, on which they rely on air games. When the WiFi was uneven and dropped, the radio calls from the teams have become dark. The game was also briefly delayed at the bottom of the seventh row when a drone hovered over the warning track in the left field. The Boy de A D A of A initially caught the drone, then used a bat to shoot it after trying to get out of its grip.
Cubs players spotted the drone and alerted manager Craig Counsell, who informed the referee of marble Adrian Johnson.
“I suppose it is the world in which we are right now,” said Counsell. “It was funny because it seemed that the drone tried to fly away and try to fly (the drum boy) too. But it’s life in 2025.”
The A will share Sutter Health Park, who can accommodate around 14,000 fans, with the Rivercates, the Triple-A of the Giants of San Francisco Rivale. Among the stadium upgrades: a new dashboard has been installed, the grass has replaced the artificial lawn, the two canoes have been extended and a bodybuilding room and the coach changing rooms were among the additions for the visited teams.
“They did everything they did to make it as pleasant as possible, and that’s all you can really ask,” Swanson said. “My main message to anyone, to myself and to myself and what I look at, is that we are very lucky to play this game, whatever when or where, whatever the stadium or where it can be located, does not matter. It is a baseball game in the major league.”
The A stadium is the only one in the majors who do not have canoes linked to the team clubs clubs, forcing players, coaches and staff to travel the outdoor field to go to the house and visitors’ locker rooms. The striking cages are also located behind the exterior wall – and Seiya Suzuki ran between the sleeves a few times to obtain swings between his bats as a designated striker.
The isolated canoes recalled to the advice of the old Giant Chandelles park, which had the same configuration. He joked after Monday’s match that the Cubs will make the start -up launchers sit in the canoe for the nine rounds all season.
“It was a fun atmosphere,” said Counsell. “You kiss him, you appreciate it. This is a new baseball experience. It is the first big league game here, so we just tried to appreciate it – I thought we did a very good job with that.”
