Cheryl Burke Advises Celebrities to ‘Stay Single’ While Dancing With the Stars

Dancing with the stars Alum Cheryl Burke reveals why romances sometimes spark between professional dancers and their celebrity partners on the hit ABC show.

In a recent episode of her Sex, lies and spray tans podcast, the professional dancer confirmed she had three “showmances” during her time on the show after she was asked why so many couples start dating.

“It’s an arranged marriage. …And it’s black and white. You either love each other or you hate each other for real,” she explained.

Burke, who left Dancing with the stars in 2022, after 26 seasons, these bonded relationships are partly due to the contestants constantly having to be “vulnerable” as well as the demanding rehearsal schedule, which requires couples to spend an “insane” amount of time together.

“It’s so intimate, and you’re stuck with this person…you better at least try to make it work,” she said. “You get closer in many ways. These celebrities are so vulnerable because to succeed you have to take everything apart. And that alone? I bet most of these married celebrities have never done this with their (partners).

Burke then shared some advice for celebrities hoping to compete in the dance competition: “Be single if you do it. Dancing with the stars. That’s all, I say.

The dancer was then asked if she had ever fallen in love with any of her partners over the years, but Burke noted that her “showmances” were only the result of “desire.”

“It’s not love, is it?” she says. “It is at this moment. Then you’re like, “Wait a second, how’s this person doing, like in the real world?” »

During his time on Dancing with the starsBurke became the first professional woman to win the series and the first person in franchise history to become a two-time Mirrorball Trophy champion.
