Cher mourns the death of her mother Georgia Holt at 96

The “Turn Back Time” singer is Georgia’s daughter with her first husband, John Sarkisiandied in 1985. The two separated when the pop star, born Cherilyn Sarkisian, was a toddler. Georgia would go on to marry six more times, including John in the 60s, but each marriage did not last.

Georgia met her partner Craig at a quilt and bed shop she opened in upscale Brentwood in Los Angeles, and he moved in with her a month later, according to the magazine. The two were in a relationship from 1976 until his death.

Cher offered glimpses of her life with Georgia on Twitter. “I love my mom, but ours wasn’t always a heavenly marriage,” she said. tweeted in September. “I was stubborn, a strong, willful little kid, I was a pony that couldn’t be broken, and it scared him. I was hoping for a freight car when I was 9. Read the book.”
