Chelsea penalty sparks outrage as Vincent Kompany and Burnley star see red

Burnley were dealt a triple blow in their 2-2 draw at Chelsea by conceding a controversial penalty and seeing two red cards.

Boss Vincent Kompany was sent off by Darren England as he argued over Lorenz Assignon’s foul on Mykhailo Mudryk in the 40th minute.

The Clarets defender received a second yellow card after being adjudged to have run over the Ukrainian striker.

Mudryk drove down the left wing and into the box where he looked to get in front of the right back, who inadvertently pushed him.

Despite replays showing minimal contact, VAR failed to overturn the decision, with Kompany raging on the sidelines.

And his animated antics saw him follow Assignon down the tunnel in wild scenes at Stamford Bridge.

But this did not happen without protests, as he initially refused to leave.

Cole Palmer then added insult to injury by coolly sending the ball into the middle of the goal to break the deadlock.

England have been nothing short of sensational since his arrival from Manchester City last summer.

The drama wasn’t over there in west London, as just three minutes after the restart the visitors were back on level terms.

And it was Josh Cullen who expertly equalized as his half-volley nestled into the far corner.

But Palmer then restored Chelsea’s lead to score his 21st Premier League goal this season.

In total, the 21-year-old scored 13 goals – including six from the penalty spot – while providing eight assists.

However, once again Chelsea were unable to maintain their lead, as Dara O’Shea headed home from a corner to earn a deserved point.
