Chelsea ‘move forward’ with bid to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City as Todd Boehly plots £80m package

Chelsea are continuing to try to sign Wesley Fofana despite Leicester insisting he is not for sale, according to talkSPORT.

The Foxes are unwilling to let go of their centre-back, who played every minute in seven of Leicester’s last 11 Premier League games last season on his return from injury.

It had been reported that Leicester had imposed a price tag of £80m on the France Under-21 international who signed from Saint-Etienne in 2020 for a fee of around £36.5m.

Now, according to talkSPORT football correspondent Alex Crook, Blues owner Todd Boehly believes he can convince the Foxes to part ways with their star defender.

As they attempt to comply with Financial Fair Play, Leicester have taken a few players off the wage bill, but none for a fee and they are yet to sign any senior players.

Fofana, 21, is under contract at King Power until 2027 after signing a new contract in March.

But should Chelsea meet the Foxes’ asking price, it would allow Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers access to funds to sign new players in their effort to improve on last season’s 8th place finish.

It has also been reported that Chelsea are ‘working’ on a deal to bring Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan as they do their utmost to avoid missing out on key targets again.

So far this summer, the Blues have brought centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly into their squad, alongside striker Raheem Sterling.

Meanwhile, along with Fofana, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes have attracted interest with Newcastle United keen on deals.
