Chelsea legend John Terry admits he’s ‘SHARED’ after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure… and warns what the club must avoid doing before finding a replacement at Stamford Bridge.

John Terry has issued a warning to Chelsea following Mauricio Pochettino’s sudden departure from the club.

The Argentine left the club by “mutual consent” after just one season in charge, having spent the last two days in talks with the club’s disgruntled hierarchy.

Pochettino and Chelsea enjoyed much better form towards the end of the campaign, as they finished with five straight wins, to secure sixth place and European football next season.

But Chelsea fell short of their ultimate goal of securing Champions League football, and the 52-year-old’s contract was cut short with a year remaining.

Chelsea legend Terry has revealed his disappointment at Pochettino’s departure, while warning the club what they must avoid doing before finding a replacement.

In a post on his Instagram story, Terry wrote that he was gutted to see Pochettino, the son of Argentinian Sebastiano (physical trainer) and his assistant Jesus Perez leave Stamford Bridge.

He added: “I just hope we don’t sign or sell any players until we find a manager.”

Chelsea insiders say they are now targeting a “young and progressive” head coach to replace him, with Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna – also wanted by Brighton – one of those being seriously considered.

The Blues have spent over £1 billion under the club’s Todd Boehly era, with very little success so far.

Last summer alone, the Blues recorded a turnover of 40 players, signing 12 and giving up 28 during Pochettino’s first transfer window at the club.

After finishing 12th last season, Chelsea under Pochettino appeared to be on their way to a similar place in the table this season after a frustrating first half of the season.

But only Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool have scored more league points than Chelsea in the second half of the campaign.

Terry, who was recently inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, had this month urged Chelsea owners to be “patient” with Pochettino.

Pochettino's departure comes despite Chelsea winning their last five league games of the season.

“I think (Pochettino) did well,” Terry told the Mirror while taking part in Padel Aid. “It was always going to be difficult from the start – we were a very young group of players from the start.

“There have been a lot of signings and a big withdrawal this summer, not only of players but also of staff. There has been a big turnaround and obviously Poch is new at the door.

“I’ve seen him work, I like the way he works, I like the way he is with the players. He definitely needs some time.

“And I think we’ve seen in the last couple of weeks, the more we’ve seen better performances, the more the players have grown in their role and also feel like they belong to Chelsea.” This is also going to take time and I just think we need to be patient. I think every club needs stability.

Late last month, Mail Sport reported that Pochettino’s plans to sack would run the risk of backlash in the dressing room due to their relationship with the manager.

Players have flocked to social media to pay tribute to Pochettino, including Nicolas Jackson, who posted a photo of him and his former manager with two emojis of a man putting his face in his hands – expressing his disappointment at his departure.

Her second Instagram Story caption read: “I love you coach. I wish we could stay together longer (hand on face emoji).

“But may God continue to bless you and your family. Thanks for the advice and support, you are a true lion and a fighter, I wish you all the best (heart emoji).’

Moises Caicedo, the record £115 million signing from Chelsea, also appeared to regret the decision, posting a photo of himself shaking Pochettino’s hand and writing: ‘Sir! It was a pleasure (tears emoji).

‘I wish you all the best for the future! What a person and what a coach (blue heart emoji).’
