Chelsea legend Eden Hazard chooses Martin Odegaard over Erling Haaland to name England’s current best player.

Erling Haaland may be a goal machine, but Martin Odegaard is currently the best Norwegian player ahead of the Manchester City star.

That’s according to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard, who also revealed who he thinks takes the top spot among England’s talents.

Even though Norway failed to qualify for Euro 2024 this summer, they can still boast a lot of quality with Haaland and Odegaard in their ranks.

The former scored 38 goals this season and won the Premier League, and the latter amassed 22 goals for Arsenal.

Many would say Haaland is top of the list, but when speaking to talkSPORT, Hazard opted for the Gunners midfield maestro instead – for one reason only.

When asked to name the current best Norwegian player, he replied: “Odegaard. I know you want me to say Haaland, but I say Odegaard.”

Hazard then explained that he had played with the midfielder, with the duo having played together for Real Madrid on two occasions.

The former Chelsea winger was also asked the same question but for England and without hesitation, he said: “Phil Foden”.

Harry Kane was probably another standout choice, but Foden once again played a key role in City’s recent title success.

The 23-year-old has scored 19 goals and assisted eight more, with the winger also named Premier League player of the season.

Hazard also revealed his picks for the other nations, with Jamal Musiala tops for Germany and Kylian Mbappe tops for France.

For Italy it was Marco Verratti, his former international teammate Kevin de Bruyne is Belgium’s main man and Virgil van Dijk is the Netherlands’ lead.

After much deliberation, Hazard named his former Chelsea teammate Cesar Azpilicueta for Spain and Cristiano Ronaldo was his choice for Portugal.

The Blues icon is set for an emotional return to Stamford Bridge on June 9 for Soccer Aid, with talkSPORT providing you with all the build-up and regular updates from the charity match.
