Chelsea fans rejoiced after academy star Alfie Gilchrist scored his first goal for the club in the 6-0 win over Everton on Monday.

Stamford Bridge were already bouncing back after Cole Palmer’s first-half hat-trick put them on the path to a dominant victory, before three more goals were scored over the next 45 seconds.

Gilchrist came through the ranks of Chelsea’s academy based in Cobham and made his first-team debut in the penultimate game of last season against Man United at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old comes from a family of Blues supporters and, despite the pressured situation, managed to keep his cool when Ben Chilwell’s deflected pass fell into his path in the Everton box.

Gilchrist sent his shot coolly into the bottom corner past a helpless Jordan Pickford and ran away celebrating wildly before being mobbed by his Chelsea team-mates.

Chants of “he’s one of us” echoed around Stamford Bridge as Mauricio Pochettino’s side completed their most impressive performance of what has been a difficult season.

Similar praise flooded social media as Chelsea supporters rejoiced over their side’s six-goal victory which propelled them to ninth in the Premier League table and just three points behind Manchester United.

Another added: “Alfie Gilchrist’s first goal for Chelsea.” Cobham has done it again,” alongside a photo of a child Gilchrist posing with legendary striker Didier Drogba.

A third comment read: “Alfie Gilchrist can’t believe he’s just scored. He has just entered our half and is watching his goal on the big screen.

“Alfie Gilchrist scoring his first goal for Chelsea made my day! GET INNNNN! This is what dreams are made of,” added another Blues fan.

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher heaped praise when analyzing Gilchrist’s 90th-minute strike, telling Sky Sports: “It was great to see a local player. You could see how happy he was and we would have said that when he was celebrating, he would look for his family in the stands so he could celebrate with them.

“He just showed that calmness, had to wait for the ball and make the right contact.

“You just see the way he’s waiting, even though it looks like an open goal. You see the celebration and he wanted to be in the crowd, didn’t he.

“It’s a moment he will never forget. It’s great for him,” he added.
