When Sonia Bompastor took the reins of Chelsea to Emma Hayes last summer, little imagined that there were still new peaks that this team could reach.
Another title of female Super League? Likely. How about winning the League Cup again? Likely. But an undefeated and record season? Even the double winner of the Champions League, Bompastor, could not have dreamed of such a first campaign.
Never before has a female team finished a WSL season of 22 games without a single loss. However, under the direction of Bompastor, Chelsea was not only invincible, but they also broke the record of points of all time in the league.
“I am only titles, but Sonia said that she was after the files, so I am too,” said midfielder Erin Cuthbert.
It was not always the most elegant football, but Chelsea delivered when it mattered the most. During their six games against the first four Arsenal teams, Manchester United and Manchester City, Chelsea came out victorious each time. None of their rivals have succeeded in two victories.
They won their sixth consecutive title with two games to lose in Leigh Sports Village ten days ago, but the celebrations had been naturally silent – the triumph having been sealed a little unexpectedly and the Champions League 8-2 humiliating by Barcelona still hanging in the air.

Today, however, with the sun shining on western London, the moment finally came for Chelsea to celebrate a perfect national league campaign in front of their own fans.
And for Bompastor, it was just a reward for the sacrifice that she, mother of four, puts in her work.
“I had goosebumps because behind the scenes (my children) cry because I travel and not at home, so sometimes it’s difficult,” she said.
“But they understand my work and it’s even better when they can share these moments with me because they know exactly what it means for us.
“To have the opportunity to come to the field and celebrate with the players, I think they realize how lucky they are. These moments are the best thing you can give to your children.
The match itself was anti-climatic. Liverpool, playing for pride and a position in the upper half of the table, has defended well and limited the chances of Chelsea.

Beever-Jones is starting to get used to winners in time against this team, after having crushed Liverpool’s dreams of a first FA Cup final with its 94th minute strike here last month.
As for the distinctions that can still come Chelsea, there is still a domestic hat -trick to win. Possible? Very.
