ChatGPT is working again after an outage took the world’s best-known artificial intelligence (AI) tool offline.
Downdetector, which tracks website outages, showed that more than 10,000 people reported the AI chatbot, created by OpenAI., didn’t work In in the United Kingdom on Thursday.
Users attempting to access it received a message stating “the web server reported a bad gateway error.”
OpenAI said on his status page a fix was implemented at 15:09 GMT, and the company was “monitoring the results.”
The company has not yet publicly commented on the cause of the outage, which began around 11:00 GMT on Thursday.
However, many people took to social media to highlight the problem and the disruption it was causing them.
Some of those who posted on X about the outage, however, were able to see the funny side of the situation.
“ChatGPT is down again? During the work day? So you’re telling me I have to… THINK?!”, joked a user.
ChatGPT’s status page stated that at the time the app was “experiencing high error rates” and that the company was “investigating.”
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has generated enormous global interest – and investment – in generative AI tools.
OpenAI boss Sam Altman said that by December 2024, ChatGPT was used by more than 300 million people worldwide every week.
Although many people use the free version of the chatbot, the company charges up to $200 per month for its various membership levels.
This comes after tech companies including OpenAI committed to a $500 billion (£405 billion) investment in AI infrastructure in the United States.
