Friday morning, a bus full of children caught fire on motorway 17 in Los Gatos, according to a California Highway Patrol Social Media Post.
A charter bus carrying 32 children and five adults headed south on motorway 17 around Big Moody Curve, south of Idylwild Road. The driver stopped on the right shoulder of the road when he saw smoke from the bus. Everyone has evacuated the bus and the fire was extinguished. There was no reported injury.
The CHP and the fire staff closed the two traffic lanes to extinguish the fire around 9:24, the tracks were closed for about 40 minutes before the left lane reopened. The second track reopened around 10:30 am in the morning, the fire of the County of Santa Clara did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
A second bus was called to transport passengers. The CHP could not confirm where the bus came from or where its destination was.
