Charlotte restaurant earns third ‘B’ grade after ‘flying pests’ and improper food storage

A south Charlotte restaurant received a “B” rating from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, the presence of insects and raw food stored at unsafe temperatures.

▪ LoSo Tavern4548 Old Pineville Rd., received a rating of 86.5 during its May 16 inspection.

Department of Health inspectors cited the restaurant after finding “flying pests” throughout the establishment, including in the bowl and clean storage areas, according to county documents.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Employee washing hands for less than 20 seconds

  • No lid on food stored in cooler

  • Food debris on dishes stored as clean

  • Raw meats and cheeses stored above required temperatures

  • Rusty shelves in a cooler

  • Cracked tiles throughout the property

This is the restaurant’s third “B” rating, the previous one having been achieved in August 2020. The restaurant received its first and only “C” rating in September 2020.

Under state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant scores below 70 percent.
