Charlie Woods, 16 -year -old golf son Tiger woodwon his first victory for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Wednesday with a three -stroke victory at the Taylormade Invitational team in Bowling Green, Florida.
Woods, playing in his fifth AJGA event, started the last lap behind the night leader, Luke Colton and mixed two Bogeys with eight birdies for a 66 less than six on the black course at Streamsong Resort which brought it to 15 within the week.
Willie Gordon (65), Phillip Dunham (68) and Colton (70) finished starting from second place.
After a Birdie-Bogey start, Woods caught his head solo late on the nine outwards with four birdies on a section of five sizzling holes. He then built a three -stroke cushion with birdies in the 11th and 12th holes, dropped a shot in the 13th but responded immediately with a birdie at the 298 yards, by four 14th where he led green. He closed his round with four consecutive pars.
Before this week, Woods’ best result on the AJGA circuit was a share of the 25th place in the Junior Invitational in Sage Valley in March.
Woods competed with his father in the last five editions of the PNC championship – an event of 36 holes with teams of two players made up of a major champion and a family member – and last December, they finished second for the second time.
The elder Woods has been sidelined since he underwent surgery in March to repair an Achilles Rumped tendon and should miss the rest of the PGA Tour season.
