Charles Leclerc de Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton were disqualified by the Chinese Grand Prix after their cars failed Sunday after the race. Leclerc and Hamilton initially finished the fifth and sixth, respectively, but Leclerc’s car turned out to be under weight limit, while Hamilton has exceeded authorized skid wear wear.
Pierre Gasly d’Alpine, who finished 11th, was also disqualified for his car below the minimum weight.
Leclerc lost its front end plate in a first -touch collision with Hamilton, but it was replaced before the final weighing. His car weighed 799 kg after fuel drainage, down the minimum of 800 kg.
Meanwhile, Hamilton’s car had a board thickness below the nine mm required. Mercedes recognized the error, the commissioners confirming that all the procedures were followed properly but that there were no attenuating circumstances.
“During the hearing, the team representative confirmed that the measure was correct and that all the required procedures were carried out correctly,” Stewards said in a statement.
“The team also admitted that there were no extenuating circumstances and that it was a real error of the team.”
The disqualifications have reworked the final classification, benefiting the most in Haas. Esteban Ocon went to fifth row, while the recruit Oliver Bearman obtained eighth.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli took sixth for Mercedes, Alex Albon finished seventh for Williams, and Lance Stroll won ninth for Aston Martin. Carlos Sainz, who originally ranked 13th, obtained the last point for Williams.
