CBSE sends protest notices to 27 schools over ‘fictitious’ registrations
The CBSE has issued notices to 27 schools in Delhi and Rajasthan for “fictitious enrolment” of students, senior officials said on Thursday.
The council is also considering taking legal action against those found to be non-compliant.
The move comes after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a surprise inspection in these schools to check the menace of ‘dummy schools’.
“A majority of the schools inspected were found to have violated the board’s affiliation regulations by enrolling students beyond their actual strength, thereby creating ‘fictitious’ enrolments. Also, the schools were found guilty of not complying with the board’s infrastructure norms,” CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta said.
“The CBSE has taken cognizance of these serious violations and notices are being issued to the defaulting schools. Legal action is also being considered against those found guilty of non-compliance,” he added.
Many students preparing for the engineering and medical entrance exams prefer to enroll in dummy schools so that they can focus solely on their preparation for the exams. They do not attend classes and appear directly for the competitive exams.
Candidates also choose mock schools, keeping in mind the quota in medical and engineering institutes available to students from certain states. For example, candidates who have completed Class 11 and 12 in Delhi are considered for admission to medical colleges in the national capital under the Delhi state quota.
Earlier this year, the CBSE cancelled the affiliation of 20 schools for enrolling dummy students and ineligible candidates.
