Casemiro admitted that there is no point thinking about titles or the Champions League at Manchester United at the moment.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has struggled to maintain his best form all season, revealed he endured sleepless nights as Erik ten Hag’s side went from one poor performance to another .

Over the past week, United have dropped seven points after late wins in Premier League matches against Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool.

They sit sixth in the table, some 22 points behind leaders Arsenal and 11 behind Tottenham in fourth and Aston Villa in fifth as they desperately try to qualify for Europe’s top competition.

Casemiro, 32, has won five Champions League crowns as well as three La Liga titles with Real Madrid, but is honest about United’s current prospects for silverware.

‘It is difficult. This is the point that bothers me the most about not fighting for titles,” he told ESPN Brazil.

“To be 20 points behind first place. Sometimes I can’t even sleep trying to think of doing something different. It is reality.

“There’s no point thinking about (winning the) title or Champions League places, we have to think about today’s games.

“We have to think on a daily basis, we had the opportunity to score nine points in the last few games and we scored two. We were upset.

“We have to think game by game and focus on the next game, against Bournemouth.”

This came after their arch rivals United and Liverpool played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead in a first half which they totally dominated, only for Bruno Fernandes to score from just inside his own half shortly after the break.

Kobbie Mainoo then put United ahead for an end-to-end second half, only for Mohamed Salah’s late penalty to salvage a point for the title contenders.

Casemiro was happy with the spirit United showed in the draw against Liverpool.

Casemiro was pleased with the way United responded to the problems caused by Liverpool.

He said: “The match (against Liverpool) was very fast and well played. A classic. We were playing against one of the leaders of the competition and who is having a good time. We responded well.

“Both teams had opportunities. The game was good. At home we are strong, but we played against a great team. We have to think about the next match.

As well as their quest to finish as high as possible in the Premier League, United are also through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face Coventry.
