Cars fans have been waiting for Cars 4 for a long time, and there is reason to hope that this long wait can finally end soon. It’s sometimes hard to believe, but Cars debuted almost 20 years ago. 2006 was 19 calendar years ago. Meanwhile, 14 calendar years have passed since the release of Cars 2 in 2011 and 8 calendar years since the release of Cars 3 in 2017.

After Cars 3, there wasn’t much left for Cars fans. Cars on the Road, an animated series featuring Mater and his best friend Lightning McQueen traveling across the country, was released on Disney+ in 2022. Since then, the series has been quiet aside from the occasional rumors about Cars 4.
One of the most notable rumbles occurred in late 2023, when at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion event, Jay Ward – creative director and consultant on the series – teased “some really fun projects” within the universe Pixar and Disney.
“There are other things coming up with Cars, I can’t say much more about that at the moment,” Ward told the Late Brake Show. “Cars have a life that will continue. I’m currently working on some really fun projects that you’ll see in a few years. It takes us time to make them.
It was December 2023, but notice the reference to “a few years.” Later this year, a few years will have passed, so it’s possible we’ll start hearing about these mysterious projects.
Is one of them Cars 4? Well, an official D23 Brazil survey from November 2024 recently mentioned Cars 4. Of course, this is strange because there has been no news of Cars 4 from Disney or Pixar.
Assuming that the projects Ward previously discussed are still in the works, then there’s a reasonable chance that the wait for Cars 4 could end earlier this year. That said, right now all we have is speculation based on several pieces of the puzzle, but not yet enough pieces to complete the picture.
If Cars 4 surfaces this year, it’s unlikely to be with a release as it would be a quick turnaround. An announcement, teaser, or even reveal doesn’t seem too far-fetched, considering the information above.
