New York (AP) – Large automobile companies say that sales have increased sharply in March, most of the two -digit reports reported. For some companies, the solid performance last month made it possible to compensate for the start of the slow year.
Car manufacturers sold nearly 1.6 million vehicles in the United States in March, up 13.6%. This brought total sales for the first quarter to more than 3.9 million vehicles, Motorintelligence.com said on Tuesday. Almost all car manufacturers have seen an increase in sales of electric vehicles.
What future months are for car manufacturers are uncertain. President Donald Trump has announced 25% prices on automotive imports that come into force on April 3. The prices should develop at automobile parts applicable in the following weeks, until May 3. The increase in taxes means that car manufacturers could cope with higher costs and a drop in sales, although Trump maintains that prices will lead to a greater opening of factories in the United States.
The automotive industry analyst Sam Abuelsamid, at Telemetry Insight, said that March figures would be higher due to certain news before the taxation of prices, although pre-purchase has probably been “limited to a certain measure by affordability and the continuation of high interest rates”.
