Problems with a third-party vendor used by Capital One are affecting the ability of some of the bank’s customers to access money online and sparking anger on social media.
The bank said in a statement to CNN that a “technical issue experienced by a third-party vendor” had “temporarily affected” some of Capital One’s services, including payment processing, deposits and its consumer, small business banks and commercial.
Since Thursday and through Friday, thousands of users are reporting issues on Downdetector, a website that monitors outages. Capital One’s support account on
“We are actively working with the provider to resolve the issue and apologize to our customers for this inconvenience,” a Capital One spokesperson said.
Users of the Capital One app are greeted with a message stating that it is “currently experiencing technical issues” and that it is “working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
The affected third-party vendor is FIS Global, a financial technology services provider for a number of major banks, including Capital One. The company said in a statement that a power outage caused the problem.
“We are working with affected customers to finalize the accounting of transactions made while systems were offline and we hope that most, if not all, of this work will be completed today,” a FIS spokesperson said. at CNN.
