Another popular social media app is disappearing in the US alongside TikTok.
If you haven’t been following, a new law passed last year requires TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its ownership by January 19, 2025. If it didn’t, the platform social media was to be removed from the App Store.
ByteDance refused to sell the app, meaning the ban comes into effect.

“Sorry, CapCut is not available at the moment,” the app’s landing page says. “A new law banning CapCut has been enacted in the United States. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use CapCut at the moment. Rest assured, we are working to restore our service in the United States. Stay tuned! In the meantime, you can still manage your account data.
Just this week, USA Today noted that it was unclear whether CapCut would also be impacted by the law targeting TikTok.
However, it seems the answer is clear: CapCut, much like TikTok, will not be available to US users for the foreseeable future.
Just days before the ban took effect, the Supreme Court rejected a request to hear a case repealing the law. However, Donald Trump indicated that he would like to reassess the situation once he is sworn in on Monday, January 20.
