Resident Evil: Requiemalso known as Resident Evil 9, Stars Grace Ashcroft, the alleged daughter of Resident Evil: epidemic‘S Alyssa Ashcroft. The decision to throw a new character in the main role is not unknown to Resident Evil – the last two games played Ethan Winters, who was also new at the time. However, fans of the series could have expected a familiar face, like Leon S. Kennedy, to reappear as a playable character. During the CAPCOM showcase for June 2025, the developer-editor explained why Leon, in particular, is not a good choice for Requiem.
“We have always thought of making Leon the protagonist,” A developer said during the window“But making a horror game based around him is difficult. He would not jump on something like a bucket that fell. No one wants to see Leon frightened by each little thing. He is in fact a bad match for horror.” Grace, on the other hand, would be an FBI analyst who is formed with firearms but must learn to overcome some of her fears during the history of the game, because she is initially “introverted and easily frightened”.
Leon previously played in Three Mainline Resident Evil Entrances: Resident Evil 2, alongside Claire Redfield, Resident Evil 4 – often rented as the best entry in the series – and Resident Evil 6 as one of the multiple playable characters. He appeared in several other ramifications through the history of Resident Evil, such as Reverse and Operation Raccoon City, and is widely considered as one of the most important figures in the franchise.
We do not know what role, if necessary, Leon can play in Resident Evil: Requiem, although Capcom tends to place his famous faces in his stories even when they are not the protagonist or the playable character. Chris Redfield, for example, plays an important role in Resident Evil: Village.
If only Leon was not so hunky and valiant, it can appear once again as the central figure of one of the most focused on the horror of Capcom as the Requiem next February.
