Capcom Confirms New Resident Evil Game In Development With Resident Evil 7 Director

At the Capcom Next 2024 conference, Capcom announced that it is currently working on a new Resident Evil game. However, Capcom has not confirmed whether it is Resident Evil 9.

“We’re making a new Resident Evil. It was really hard to figure out what we were going to do after[Resident Evil]7,” director Koshi Nakanishi said. “But I found what I wanted, and to be honest, it feels substantial.” Nakanishi went on to explain that he couldn’t give any further details, but that he looked forward to sharing more when the time comes.

Previous games Nakanishi has worked on include Resident Evil 5, on which he worked as a designer, and Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, all of which he directed.

Rumors have recently been circulating about the next Resident Evil game. The upcoming title is said to feature an open-world structure built with the RE Engine, similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. The same reports also indicated that the game would be officially announced later this fall and is expected to release in 2025.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are said to be the next games in the franchise to get remakes.
