Anaheim – Life between the lines was not always easy for the canyon softball team this spring, but it released an obstacle at the end of the season on Thursday which could be the start of a wave of chances.
The Comanches, which were n ° 1 in the pre -season OC classification, struck 11 strokes – including five doubles – to beat El Modena 8-1 and equalize the advantages for second place in the CrestView League.
N ° 6 Canyon (18-7, 5-4) and n ° 3 El Modena (16-7, 5-4) Trail First place and n ° 5 Pacifica (15-8, 7-2) by two games with three games of the championship to play. CYPRESS (15-9, 3-5 in the league) has 1 1/2 games in second place.
“It was a must,” said Canyon coach Jess Carbajal. “I just hope that we can stay focused and end the season well. It is a difficult league and these teams are all room at any time.”
The canyon’s offensive has shown progress by chaining successes to support the Starter Bella Seetmbro and Jordan Simmons, who impressed in relief.
The first goal player of the byu, Irma Urincho, and the junior head striker Mia Saenz each had two doubles to punctuate an offense which was laundered by Pacificica earlier this week and by El Modène on April 8.
“Energy was extinguished these days,” said Saenz, who went 2 for 3 with an intentional walk and three products produced. “When the energy is lit, we still hit.”
Saenz launched Canyon during the second round. With the loaded bases and two withdrawals, she has laced a double field opposite on the line of the left field to clear the bases for a 3-0 advance.
In the fourth, Urincho led a double of field opposite to the center of right to extend the advance at 4-0 and drive out the starter Ashley Driskill.
Jade Diaz de Canyon crowned the scoring with a double RBI in the sixth. The senior stop finished with two products produced.
Thrilling No. 9 Victoria Oropeza added two strokes and scored twice to help punctuate the attack by Canyon.
“It was a season of growth,” said Carbajal about the offense. “These girls must have gathered and do things (like) putting the ball in play, learning to hit a little differently that they were sometimes used to it. (We) try to have them executed more … and they arrive with that now.”
Simmons entered with a back in the fourth and escaped a base jam to protect a 4-1 advance. The Senior linked to Brown withdrew six and did not allow a safe blow in 3 2/3 rounds.
“We tried to work to stay together in a team,” said Urincho, who went 2 for 4. “We had our ups and downs but we continue to pick up.”
Kaitlyn Galasso completed a Home Run solo, his ninth, in the fourth for El Modena. Jillian Alvarado added a double for the Vanguards, who abandoned his second championship match this week.
“Right now, we are in a little difficult situation and we have been able to find a way to get out of it,” said El Modena coach Bobby Calderon, whose team plays Cypress on Saturday.
