Film stars preparing to walk the red carpet at Cannes have been warned they could be the victims of a ‘windfall’ of criminal burglaries, including thefts of jewels worth millions.
British protection firm Westminster Security has been hired to deal with VIPs on the French Riviera.
The extra caution follows last year’s theft of jewelry from actress Jodie Turner-Smith’s hotel room.

Westminster security boss John Moore said: ‘It’s a bit like spawning season. They are all drawn there. It’s a godsend for them,” reported The Telegraph.

Turner-Smith, star of ‘True Blood’ and ‘After Yang’, was having breakfast with his 15-month-old daughter when thieves broke into his suite at the Marriott La Croisette hotel.
There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the criminals may have posed as hotel staff.
Mr Moore said the thieves were trying to make their way to lavish parties on yachts, where valuables are on display.
They have “the habit of getting in touch with the staff – room service and valets – of the palaces to obtain information on the reservations of the celebrities”.
Criminals can also wear masks and sunglasses to hide their identities, he added.
“I find it unacceptable that celebrities have to hide their jewelry, which prevents them from exposing their belongings.”
In 2013, the infamous Pink Panthers gang stole gems worth an incredible £88million from a hotel suite at the Carlton Hotel.
In the same year, thieves snatched a £1.4 million Chopard necklace.
This year, the Cannes Film Festival begins on Tuesday evening and ends on May 28.
