Put this melted tuna!

The canned tuna sold in large grocery stores in 26 states and the Columbia district was recalled on risks of botulism due to defective packaging which could compromise security, according to the manufacturer, tri-union seafoods, and the fda .

A dangerous infection linked to hospitals now becoming common outside them

The company based in California has published a voluntary reminder for 13 products and advised consumers to exercise extreme caution if they bought the products recalled, which were available in stores such as Costco, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Walmart and Publix.

Three things to know

  1. Tri-Union Seafoods announced the recall of canned tuna products under the brand names Genova, Van Camp, Heb and Trader Joe on February 7. The FDA has published the recall this week.
  2. The affected products have been described as having an easy “sweater” packaging which could allow the seal to compromise over time, or contaminated by Clostridium botulinum.
  3. This bacteria, if consumed, can lead to food poisoning via botulism, which is extremely dangerous and can lead to a disease or death. Until now, there has been no report of disease related to the products recalled.

So what should you do?

You can consult the list of all states, products and stores impacted here.

If you think you bought one of the cans recalled, the company advises you to return it to the retailer for a refund, to throw it or contact Tri-Union Seafoods for a recovery kit and a coupon.

Even if the tuna smells or looks good, throw it away, said the company. Anyone who has consumed the assigned tuna is advisable to immediately consult a doctor.
