Canelo Alvarez had a heated exchange with Oscar De La Hoya on Wednesday ahead of his title fight against undefeated Jaime Munguia at a press conference in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya took aim at Alvarez, a former Golden Boy talent, and took credit for building his career, saying “Put some respect on that.”

The promoter then accused the middleweight of failing two drug tests, with the claim forcing Alvarez to get up from his seat to face De La Hoya.

Alvarez and De La Hoya had to be separated by security while both hurled expletives at each other.

De La Hoya fought his last official boxing match in 2008 and is clearly in Munguia’s corner ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Munguia enters the Alvarez fight 43-0, while Alvarez hasn’t lost at middleweight since a 2013 majority decision loss to Floyd Mayweather.

Alvarez has never lost a fight by knockout in any weight class. Golden Boy released Alvarez from his contract in November 2020.

De La Hoya and Alvarez’s relationship appears irreparably damaged by the breakup.

De La Hoya, now 51, quickly sat down after Alvarez confronted him, before calling him a slime after he pulled out his chair.

Alvarez defends his four super middleweight titles against Munguia in the fight. Alvarez has held multiple world titles since his September 2018 victory over Gennady Golovkin.

Alvarez enters the fight with an all-time record of 60-2-2.
