Can Mark Hamill help Biden’s falling poll numbers? Luke Skywalker himself shows up at the White House for Star Wars Day on May 4…and gives Joe a new nickname

Is there ‘new hope’ for President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign?

Star Wars star Mark Hamill made a surprise appearance Friday in the White House briefing room and revealed to reporters that he had just been given a tour of the Oval Office by Biden himself.

Hamill, a liberal who speaks on Twitter, praised the president’s record and floated a potential new nickname for Biden.

“Well, you know, I called him Mr. President. He said, “You can call me Joe.” And I said, “Can I call you Joe B.-Wan Kenobi?” said the Luke Skywalker actor. “He liked it,” Hamill added.

Although press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre didn’t fully explain why Hamill was in town, Saturday marks National Star Wars Day – because May 4 resembles the sci-fi film franchise’s tagline: ” May the force be with you”.

During the briefing, Hamill entered the room with Jean-Pierre and stood behind her wearing a pair of sunglasses.

“How many of you Mark Hamill will be leading the press briefing on your BINGO card,” he asked the surprised reporters. “Yeah, me neither,” the actor joked.

“I just met the president and he gave me these aviator glasses,” Hamill continued. “I love derivative products, I love everything.”

He then explained why he is a continued supporter of the Biden administration.

But listen, I just want to say that I was honored to be invited to come to the White House meet the president, the president who has had the greatest legislative success of my lifetime,” the 72-year-old said. “And I don’t need to go through the list, the bipartisan infrastructure bill, the PACT, the CHIPS law.” 15 million jobs. It’s perfect.’

Hamill said he was also “excited” to meet many White House staff members.

“I’m open to questions though, no Star Wars questions please,” he joked, adding: “I want to say once again how grateful I am and it just goes to show that a “No one person can be so influential and so positive in our lives,” he said of Biden.

“And once again, thank you very much. And Peter Baker, I loved your book,” Hamill said, thanking the distinguished New York Times journalist.

The actor was asked what he talked about with the president.

He responded that he only expected to stay with Biden for five minutes – but revealed the meeting lasted longer.

“He showed us all his photographs. And you know, it was really amazing for me because you know I was invited to the Carter White House. And I came. And then I got to the Obama White House. But I’ve never been invited to the Oval Office…so this one was really, really special,” Hamill said.

Once he left, Jean-Pierre laughed, “I don’t even know where to go from here,” as staff could be heard applauding the actor as he walked back into the House press office White.

“They had a meeting about what the president was able to do on behalf of the American people. Mark Hamill was in town. They met,” Jean-Pierre said, calling it “important.”

“You all know Mark Hamill,” she continued, emphasizing how “invested” he was in the country.

“And we thought it would be fun for him to come here and liven up, light up the room on a Friday, we also think you guys, there are some Star Wars fans here,” said Jean- Rock.
