California’s Death Valley National Park closes roads due to flooding

Some roads in and out of Death Valley National Park have been closed after being inundated over the weekend with mud and debris from flash floods that also hit the west of the country hard Nevada and northern Arizona.

On Sunday, officials did not provide an estimate of when roads around Death Valley would reopen.

Motorists have also been told to avoid the Mojave National Preserve in southern California after flooding the crooked pavement on some roads. The rain also caused the closure of highways and campgrounds elsewhere, but no injuries were reported.

The storms produced torrential downpours and the National Weather Service reported more than an inch of rain fell in 15 minutes Sunday near Kingman, Arizona, which is close to the California border.
