Redwood City – Mills Softball was a good team last year.
The Vikings finished the season with a record of 14-7, losing in the quarter-final of the IV tournament IV of the section of the central coast in Aragon. But this season, Mills have brought things to another level.
Currently n ° 6 in the Bay Area News Group ranking, the Vikings are now 9-2-1 after the Race of Race Race Séquoia on Friday. Mills have several impressive victories on his curriculum vitae, including a 5-3 defeat from Mitty, a perennial power in the bay region.
So what made the difference for the Vikings this year?
“Camaraderie with the team,” said Mills coach Michelle Beauchemin. “Most girls have been playing together since they were six years old. So, when the first -year students came, everyone was welcoming and already knew how they played, so they just went up together when they played back and things like that.
“It really also helps that we have very good leaders in the team. So when someone feels depressed or does not feel like they are best right now, everyone is really good to encourage themselves and make sure they fill up again.”
The Vikings cup overflows for the moment. They look like a solid competitor in the Ocean division of the Athletic League peninsula, where they will fight with Half Moon Bay, Menlo-Arherton, Sequoia, Terra Nova and Notre Dame-Belmont.
Mills took his second defeat of the young season on Wednesday, falling 6-3 against Notre Dame-Belmont, team n ° 7 in the Bang ranking. The coming road will not be easy, but the Vikings are better prepared for the Glove to come thanks to the rigor of their non -league slate.
“We are more challenged this year,” said Beauchemin. “I made sure that we were playing a lot more teams from A-League, teams that we would not see in our league, just so that we can see that we have the capacity to compete. It helps them stay motivated when they succeed against teams like that, and they realize:” Oh, look, we can do things like that. “”

“So, this is not a shock when we are going to play other teams and we get closer or fight them. The biggest challenge for them is to keep this momentum, because now they know that all eyes are on them, and they feel this pressure. We train them too. We just want to go out here and not feel this pressure.
Mills certainly had little trouble overthrowing Sequoia on Friday at Redwood City. The Vikings jumped on the Ravens (3-6) with six points at the top of the first round, then added three more in second to push the advance to 9-1.
Mulls was not threatened again the rest of the path. The senior headache Sofia Kwan was an offensive show for the Vikings with three strokes, two doubles and three points struck.

The first year Jolie Wong added a triple of two points in Place N ° 3 in the range. Sophomore Lucy Esquivel, the junior Audrey Jang and the second year student Alyssa Penas each cut two strokes.
Jada Crockett Senior snatched a double of two points for Sequoia to mark the majority of ravens races.
“Obviously, it did not go as if we wanted it to happen,” said Sequoia coach Sha Crockett. “But I think the girls went out ready, went out to play. It’s a good team there, but it’s a team with which we could compete.
