Calicut Heroes beat Delhi Toofans to win first Prime Volleyball League trophy – Firstpost

Calicut Heroes joins Kolkata Thunderbolts and Ahmedabad Defenders to win Prime Volleyball League title

Calicut Heroes stunned Delhi Toofans in the final of the third season of the Prime Volleyball League, registering a 15-13, 15-10, 13-15, 15-12 victory at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, Thursday to lift their first trophy.

Delhi’s defense started well, negating Calicut’s aggressive attacks. Lazar Dodic and Santhosh demonstrated their attacking prowess, but a series of service errors from Delhi allowed Calicut to overturn the deficit. Vikas Maan made some solid blocks while Jerome Vinith contributed to Calicut’s defense. Perotto’s magical super serve helped the Calicut Heroes take an early lead in the match.

Delhi started attacking from the middle, engaging Aayush and Aponza, while Calicut relied on Jerome and Chirag to attack from opposite ends. Danial’s monster block on Dodic motivated Calicut. Delhi didn’t help themselves with unforced errors and Calicut began to cruise. Danial made two crucial blocks on the Delhi attackers and Calicut Heroes took a 2-0 lead.

Santhosh found himself chained by Danial while Perotto remained aggressive in attack. Two crucial blocks from Aponza and Manoj revived Delhi to win the third set. Mukesh emerged as an unlikely hero for Delhi as Rohit’s power services tested Calicut. But in the fourth set, Jerome nullified Delhi’s defense with vicious shots from the right and Calicut claimed a mammoth victory.
