Louisville, Ky. (AP) – Terrance Edwards Jr. marked a 35 -point career summit to lead the No. 14 Louisville to an 85-68 victory against California on Wednesday evening.
Edwards, the Sun Belt year player last season for James Madison, offered an early attack when he made six of his first shots to give the cardinals (24-6, 17-2 conference on the Atlantic coast) an advance of 22-19 with 7:22 to play before half-time.
Meanwhile, Edwards’ teammates missed 10 of the 11 shots combined during this period. Edwards pulled 11 in total on the ground and established a career in career with seven 3 points in 11 attempts.
Jovan Blacksher Jr. scored 22 points for CAL (13-17, 6-13), who also obtained 11 from Jeremiah Wilkerson.
Chucky Hepburn added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Louisville. I see Hadley finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Louisville led by 53-29 after the three-point game of Hepburn with 17:20 to play. The Bears got closer up to 13 to 64-51 after DJ Campbell, 3 points with 11:36 remaining, but the cardinals withdrew.
California: The Bears, the worst ACC shooting team at only 42.1%, pulled 29.6%. It is their third time this season which has drawn less than 30%.
Louisville: The cardinals made 11 of the 23 3 points, even though Reyne Smith, one of the best perimeter shooters in the country, did not play after having injured his right leg in the first half.
Mady Sissoko’s sweater gave CAL an advance of 19-16 with 8:06 on the left before half-time. It would be the last crazy basket of the half-time Bears because they have missed their next 14 shots. Louisville went 8 for 12 in this section and took an advance of 41-26 at the break.
Edwards joins Hepburn, Smith and Hadley while the cardinals scored 30 points in match this season.
Cal rolls up the regular season on Saturday at Notre Dame. Louisville welcomes Stanford on Saturday.
