“I was a little anxious before the pick,” Clark said in an interview with ESPN.

“I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was in second grade, and it took a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but more than anything, I just tried to soak it in.”

Clark was a hot commodity after hitting a career-high 3,951 points as she finished her college basketball season.

While with the Hawkeyes, she reached the 2024 NCAA Championship Game, although her team lost 87-75 to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

After her loss, she opened up about her heartbreak on Instagram, writing: “It’s really hard to win these things. I think I probably know that better than most people now.

“Being so close twice, it really hurts. But at the same time, we were there. We fought. We knocked out some really good teams to get back to this point and (did) something really hard to do,” Clark continued.

At the time, she also received support from McCaffery who paid her a special tribute after the big match.

“My GOAT,” he wrote alongside several heart emojis and a snap of Clark.
