Caitlin Clark tells Good Morning America she had the ‘weight of the world’ on her shoulders leading up to Iowa’s WNBA Draft and NCAA Tournament…and says she’s dreamed of going pro ‘since second year “.

Caitlin Clark appeared on Good Morning America on Tuesday and admitted she’s had the “weight of the world” on her shoulders in recent weeks following Iowa’s NCAA tournament campaign and WNBA draft.

The 22-year-old was, as expected, selected as the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft on Monday by the Indiana Fever in Brooklyn.

Clark, who wore a white Prada jacket and skirt, arrives in the professional league as the most successful college player in history, which has made her the sport’s new star.

The former Iowa star has become a household name in recent months and now she’ll try to help revive the Indiana franchise alongside last season’s No. 1 overall pick, Aliyah Boston, who previously played with Clark on a USA Basketball under-19 team.

She continued her media frenzy in New York this week by stopping by Good Morning America on Tuesday, admitting she was “anxious about going to the draft.”

Caitlin Clark appeared on Good Morning America on Tuesday hours after the WNBA draft.

Clark said: “It’s super special. Sitting at the table, sort of knowing where I was going, you still get a little anxious when the commissioner comes out and says your name.

“It’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was in second grade. Being at the table with my family was amazing and sharing that with them was super special.

Asked about the pressure placed on her over the past month as she guided the Iowa Hawkeyes to the NCAA championship game and before the draft, she added: “Honestly, I feel like It’s just something that comes with it.

“I don’t feel a lot of things. It just came from the way I behaved and went about my business each day.

“That’s what I try to do the most, but at the same time, I always remember that it’s a team sport. I have a lot of people to count on and outside of basketball, I know I can count on my friends and family to be there and support me.

“Sometimes you can really feel the weight of the world on your shoulders but, more than anything, for me it’s fun, it’s a game, you just have to enjoy it.” Like, how lucky am I?

The fever that gripped Clark was inevitable since she announced on February 29 that she would turn professional.

Nearly 17,000 tickets were claimed to attend the draft at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the NBA’s Fever and Indiana Pacers.

Clark helped attract millions of fans to women’s soccer with her iconic shooting and passing ability.

The NCAA’s all-time scoring leader is a big reason why a record 18.9 million viewers watched the national championship game, which Iowa lost to undefeated South Carolina. The Hawkeyes were also national runners-up behind LSU a year earlier.
