Bungie Updates Destiny 2 Ban Policy to Combat AFK Loot Farming Marco

Bungie has updated Destiny 2’s ban policy to target AFK macro loot farming, enforcing new rules against automated play while preserving accessibility options for legitimate users.

Bungie has taken a hard stance against AFK (Away From Keyboard) farming in Destiny 2, specifically targeting players who use input macros to automate gameplay.

In a recent update to its account restriction and banning policies, the developer made it clear that using input macros to harvest loot without actively participating in the game will no longer be tolerated.

For some time now, players have been using macros to bypass idle detection and earn in-game rewards without actively playing. This has become a major concern in the Destiny 2 community, especially when it comes to collecting newly released rewards, such as Exotic class items.

Bungie Tackles AFK Farming in Destiny 2

In response, Bungie released a detailed statement earlier today, announcing the policy update. You can read the full statement shared on the DestinyTheGame subreddit as well as the official Destiny 2 Discord server below.

As of today, we have revised our restrictions and prohibitions policy to include the use of input macros to automate gameplay. While input macros can be a beneficial accessibility tool for many (and we intend to keep it that way), some have exploited these tools to automate gameplay.

“Players detected using automation to bypass inactivity detection or performing automated activities to gain loot may be restricted or banned. Loot includes, but is not limited to, XP, materials, or items (e.g., exotic class items). Automation or circumvention includes, but is not limited to, the use of programmable controllers, keyboard/mouse adapters, advanced macros, or artificial intelligence.

“We do not intend to retroactively impose bans or restrictions on anyone, and any bans or restrictions related to this policy change will be applied to future violations. Players who are currently using or have used macros for the purposes described above may receive an in-game message warning them of future macro use. Additionally, a small number of account actions have been taken in the past few days for unrelated Terms of Service violations.

Finally, accessibility in games is important to us. As we continue to explore opportunities to expand accessibility options in Destiny 2, we want to ensure that players who use macros for accessibility purposes are not penalized.

Bungie also clarified that this policy is not retroactive, meaning players who have already used macros will not be penalized. However, those who continue to do so after this update could face serious consequences, ranging from in-game warnings to full account bans.

As always, players are encouraged to review the full details of Bungie’s account restriction and banning policies to ensure they are in line with the latest rules and regulations.
