Bungie responds after Destiny 2’s final form was ‘accidentally released on PS5’

Destiny 2 developer Bungie has acknowledged its unfortunate situation ahead of the launch of the game’s latest DLC expansion, The Final Shape, tomorrow, June 4. In a mind-blowing own goal, The Final Shape was “accidentally streamed live on the PS5’s streaming service,” and spoilers for the decade-spanning story arc are now being shared online.

On Twitter, Bungie posted its mea culpa, saying that “a small group of players were able to play the campaign, access collections, and other information about upcoming rewards in The Final Shape.” The developer says it’s “always extremely difficult when our team’s hard work is leaked early” and asks the community to be respectful of others and report leaks “so players can discover the conclusion themselves of the Light and Darkness saga.

Bungie has refused to explain how exactly the expansion was put online for players to access in the first place, so we’re left to imagine an intern leaning casually against a lever marked “The Final Form – Don’t Pull.” On Reddit, the community is in total free fall, with moderators trying to put out fires as they arise. Misinformation is rife, but it seems clear that legitimate spoilers are now present. There’s even growing speculation that this snafu might actually be on Sony, as routing players to the right servers seems like something the platform holder should guarantee.
