In a career that lasted 3 decades, Tony Gilroy got into the habit of playing safely. He said it himself. Tony, who is a writer, director and showrunner, comes from a showbiz family. He has a brother who is a director, another who is editor and his father, Frank Gilroy, was a playwright and winning filmmaker of Tony and Pulitzer.
At first, Tony did not want to follow in the footsteps of his father’s career. He originally wanted to continue music with thoughts of becoming a studio musician or something straight like that.
Tony finally realized that his call was in films and television. He was little to have the occasional scenario produced, but was just as happy to punch. At the age of fifty, he directed his first feature film: The Instant Classic Michael Clayton. Tony also wrote a bunch of Flock films, and he was called upon to rewrite and make reshuffles for the Star Wars movie Snape One.
Tony’s most recent work continues in the Star Wars universe. He is the creator of AndorThe Disney + series on what happened before Snape One. The show is currently in its second season.
Tony joins us to talk about Andorand what makes him so different from any other Star Wars program. He also discusses with us the next step for him after the end of the show and the way he was very close to becoming a professional musician.
