BERLIN — A fire in a residential building in western Germany killed three people and seriously injured two others on Thursday, authorities said.
The fire broke out overnight in a kiosk that is part of the building in Düsseldorf and spread to the entrance and the second floor, firefighters said in a statement.
Firefighters used ladders to rescue several people from balconies.
Sixteen people were taken to hospital, firefighters said. The cause of the fire was unclear, police said.
